Morris Johnny Indigenous Artist started carving in his early 20s and apprenticed under Beau Dick, Marcus Alfred, Aubrey Johnston His father Joe Johnny is also a woodcarver. In 2002, Morris carved a large totem pole for the Umista Cultural Centre with fellow Kwakwaka’wakw artist Stephen Bruce.
Morris is of Kwakwaka’wakw and Cowichan First Nations descent, has lived in Alert Bay and Port Hardy since 1998 and learned traditional carving skills from notable artists including some of Alert Bay and areas finest like Beau Dick, Steven Bruce, Aubrey Johnston, Marcus Alfred. Morris is continuing his family's legacy of carvers. . The Thunderbird, Killer Whale, and Grizzly Bear are Family Crests.
